Etching with platetone.
Schiefler 87. Woll G 60 c (of e). Signed and with the hand-written printer's note by Otto Felsing, Berlin. On firm off-white wove paper. Copper plate: 23 x 15 cm. Sheet: 51 x 35 cm.
Printed by Otto Felsing, Berlin (with hand-written note). The early Felsing prints still show the full plate with the artist's portrait below the depiction of the "young lady", while later Felsing copies from before 1907 no longer show the artist's portrait - as it is the case here. In these proofs the the plate's lower part is not printed. [JS].
- Very rare. This is the first time that a copy of this etching is offered on the international auction market (source: artprice.com). - The work shows the Norwegian artist Tubsy, Margrethe Caroline Jebe Clement (born in 1871), who stayed with Munch in Paris in 1896. - The artist's portrait, which used to be on the plate, was supposedly by her hand. - Other copies are at importnat museums like the Munch Museet, Oslo, the National Gallery, Oslo, the State Museums Berlin and the Museum Folkwang, Essen. - From the acclaimed Serge Sabarsky Collection, New York.
